Class Descriptions:

Balance and Bones™: Practice safe, effective chair exercises to increase core stability and strengthen the muscles needed whether you are seated, standing or walking.

Balance and Bones™ PLUS: Have fun while you learn how to prevent falls and boost your bone health. Practice chair and standing exercises to increase core stability and the muscle strength needed to protect your most vulnerable sites: wrists, hips and lower back.

Exercise with Ease: Enjoy a moderately-paced, rhythmic aerobic and strength-training workout to improve stamina, mobility, and balance.  Prevent injury from falls and improve bone and joint health at your most ‘at risk’ sites: wrists, hips and lower back.

PD Chair Functional Fitness Class for Strength and Stability: A rhythmic and joyful movement class that works muscles and joints when sitting or standing, to sing and shout, get up and sit down, lift and reach, bend and balance. All class postures and patterns use the same movement principles appropriate and necessary to safely participate in activities of daily living, reduce stress, and build confidence and independence. Class is designed to accommodate participants and can be done seated or standing. Participants must be able to transfer to a chair. Caregivers are invited and encouraged to participate.

Tap Into Well-being BASIC: Experience the joy of tap dancing with the benefits of exercise — without

worries about physical limitations, balance, hip, knee or foot challenges. Learn or re-
learn the basics of tap dancing from a seated position. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes (no sneakers or tap shoes–yet!).

Tap Into Well-being BASICS PLUS: Combines the joy of tap dancing with the benefits of exercise without worries about physical limitations, balance, hip, knee or foot challenges. Learn traditional tap combinations from a seated or standing position. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes (no sneakers or tap shoes–yet!).

Additional Information regarding Hybrid classes:

  • All classes are based on the guidelines recommended by BHOF.
  • All classes are designed to improve postural alignment, gait, strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility and bone density.
  • All exercise classes focus on function and form, so we can approach our activities of daily living — lifting the groceries, replacing the dishes on the top shelf, making the bed — knowing we can do so safely and comfortably, avoiding falls and injury.
  • All exercise classes offer a warm-up, resistance work using our own body weight, resistance bands and free weights, and appropriate stretches.
  • Within all classes modifications are offered to accommodate personal challenges.

Advanced Tap: Performance combinations using the Lambent Hughes Technique. Includes a TAPaerobics® component.

Jazz Stretch and Strengthen: Barre and center floor work to enhance technique and comfort.

Additional Services:

One-On-One/Private sessions in your home or in a rental studio space. The goals of these sessions:  learn the fundamentals of tap dancing, or strength training;  improve your cardiovascular and skeletal systems; gain, regain, or maintain your balance; prevent and/or rehabilitate joint disease.

Side benefits:  Enjoy life with more energy and less pain!
